The social unrest roiling Quebec is colour-coded red. One cannot miss the hundreds of thousands of people with cloth of the colour pinned to their coats and satchels; the stickers pasted on street poles and storefront mannequins; and the sheets fluttering from balconies and windows. The red squares – punning visually on a French expression to be squarely in the red, or in debt – are a gesture of solidarity with university and college students on a massive general strike against government tuition fee hikes.
A Democracy Movement for the U.S.A.
Liberty Tree is uniquely committed to building a democracy movement for the U.S.A.. We provide vital support to grassroots campaigns for democratic reform in many areas of American life, and bring those campaigns together to form a united movement for democracy.
Our current priority projects:
Liberty Tree is proud to announce that our next national Democracy Convention will be held in Madison, WI from August 7th-11th, 2013. For more information or to register click here! Also, to access audio, text, and video from the 2011 Democracy Convention click here.
Our Shut the Chamber campaign is organizing indiviudals, organizations, small-businesses, and local chambers, to cut ties with and fight back against the U.S. Chamber of Commerece. The U.S. Chamber is the #1 force behind the austeirty agenda, attacks on workers' rights, climate change denial, and much much more.
The Wisconsin Wave is dedicated to uniting Wisconsinites against corporatization and austerity and for democracy and shared prosperity. After playing an important role in the two years of the Wisconsin Uprising, the Wave is continuing to organize a long-term movement for democracy.
The national Move to Amend coalition, of which Liberty Tree is a co-founding organization, is the nation's largest, most diverse, and most deeply rooted campaign working to amend the U.S. Constitution to protect our democratic rights by overturning the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling.
